Cycling: 4th stage of Paris-Nice !!!
Covering !!
Tadej Pogacar raised his arms at the top of the Loge des Gardes hill on Wednesday at the end of the 4th stage of Paris-Nice. The Slovenian beat David Gaudu and took the yellow jersey. !!
After stages for the sprinters, it was the turn of the climbers to show off during the 4th stage of Paris-Nice this Wednesday. Tadej Pogacar crossed the finish line first at the top of the Loge des Gardes hill (6.7 km at 7.1%) which wreaked havoc in the peloton with its passages at 10%, after a duel final with David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ). He took the overall lead. Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), 6th at 43 seconds, lost big. !!
After a calm start to the race, things got hectic when seven riders started a breakaway: Maurice Ballerstedt (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Lilian Calmejane (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty), Anders Skaarseth (Uno-X Pro), Larry Warbasse ( AG2R Citroën Team), Hugo Houle (Israel-Premier Tech), PascalEenckhorn (Lotto-Dstny) and the wearer of the polka dot jersey, Jonas Gregaard (Uno-X Pro). The gap even increased to 5 minutes after 72 kilometers. !!
The peloton encountered its first turbulence at kilometer 80 when the Groupama-FDJ team increased its pace sharply. It then split into two groups before reforming. !!
In the last 60 kilometers, where the difficulties of the route awaited the riders, the attacks multiplied, without success. 6 kilometers from the line and at the bottom of the final climb, the Loge des Gardes (6.7 km at 7.1%), the peloton was grouped together until the attacks of David Gaudu, Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar. !!
Best climber at the start of this 4th stage, the Dane from the Uno-X Pro team, Jonas Gregaard, had the opportunity to increase his lead at the top of the mountain classification and he responded. Member of the breakaway at the start of the race, he was the first to overcome the first difficulty of the route, the Côte du Vernet (2.1 km at 5.8%) before repeating the performance during the ascent of the next, the Cheval Rigon coast (5.7 km at 3.9%). He now totals 14 points ahead of Pogacar, with 12 units.
On Thursday, the riders will start in Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise for 212.4 km to Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux. A 5th stage which should be punctuated by breakaways. !!
